Today I’ve decided to talk about canister vacuums and what they may be good for and maybe help you out on which vacuum to get and subsequently, which could help you out choosing your replacement vacuum bags. I can’t stress how important that is! (I will revisit that in another post, that and filters!)

First off canister vacuums usually “appear” to be quieter, I saw that with “” because designs are more or less the same its just that compared to say a upright vacuum, the sound from a canister is coming from behind you rather that right in front of you so you feel that it is quieter, which of course comes down to personal preference. Canister vacuums are actually more ideal for cleaning bare floors such as bathroom, kitchen etc. Even like stairs, in cars and those hard to reach places. The suction is good and of course with that kind of design it is more agile than a big upright vacuum.

I think no matter if you choose canister or upright or bagless (which I will talk about in a later post, since these are starting to get really popular but are they really that good?) it can come down to style and of course like I mentioned the usage. Canisters have a tendency to need more space, so if you are living in a 400 square feet home it may not make sense to have a large size canisters, but then again you wouldn’t have to replace the vacuums bags so often =P. Other than that of course there are different designs that may appeal to you more and some not so much, regardless of what you do I have to briefly mention that as with anything, if you expect it to work well

a) You have to use it properly

b) You have to maintain it properly and this includes taking good care of it and not do things like chucking it back into the closet!

c) Perform the necessary maintenance – like the name of this site, vacuum bags! You’ll be surprised as to how often this is taken lightly on top of that of course the filter, the belt and the assortment of parts.

I think I started this blog to really try to educate people to be aware of things that they should be paying attention and spending money on and things they shouldn’t and often it is sometimes something as small as vacuum bags.
